Shopify Price Rules Automation: Markup Formulas That Scale

Stop setting prices one product at a time — build the formula once, apply it forever.

Why manual pricing collapses above 50 products

At 20 products you can hand-price each one. At 200 products it's a day of work. At 500 products it's impossible. And every supplier price change triggers a full re-do.

Price rules let you define a formula (cost × multiplier + fixed amount + rounding) and apply it to every product automatically. Supplier price changes flow through without you touching each product.

The multiplier math that works

Typical dropshipping margins: 2.5-4× markup on cheap items (under €10 cost), 1.8-2.5× on mid-range (€10-50), 1.5-2× on high-ticket (€50+). The percentage margin is lower on expensive items, but absolute profit is higher.

Layer in: fixed shipping cost, payment processor fees (~3%), and planned ad spend ratio. A "€5 cost × 3 = €15 retail" product with €3 shipping and €4 ad spend = €3 profit, not €10.

Psychological pricing endings

Ending prices in 9 or 5 (€19.99, €24.95) consistently outperforms round numbers on consumer products. For premium brands, round numbers (€20, €25) project confidence. Pick a convention per brand and enforce it with rounding rules.

Compare-at prices for perceived value

A compare-at (strikethrough) price 30-40% higher than the active price triggers the discount heuristic and lifts CVR 10-25%. Shopify supports this as a product field. Set a rule that auto-generates compare-at as 1.4× of the active price.

How ImportFlow solves this

Price-rule engines live upstream of every product sync. Building this once saves weeks of cumulative manual pricing work.

ImportFlow is a purpose-built Shopify product importer that combines AI rewriting, multi-language translation, bulk import, SEO scoring, and scheduled publishing in a single dashboard. You paste a supplier URL, let the AI rewrite titles and descriptions for your market, set your pricing rules, and publish to Shopify — a workflow that normally takes 20-30 minutes per product happens in under a minute.

Stores using ImportFlow typically ship 7-10× more products per week than stores doing manual listings, and those products launch with proper SEO meta fields, Google Shopping categories, and market-specific copy from day one. Start your free trial at importflow.app and see the difference on your next product import.
